Worth A Look

What a coincidence that as I was planning to update this today we had to put the school into Secure Mode.  Sometimes we overreact, but it is all in the spirit of vigilance and student safety.  The School Safety Advocacy Council released its annual survey results today.  You may find them interesting:

I was surfing through some TED talks, as I do from time to time, looking for inspiring stories.  Something insightful about the importance of education, or inspiring for struggling learners, or even a little tidbit about how public education will save the world.  But, what I found was the following.  Unfortunately, with current events as they are, I found this more relevant and moving.  I have had to address misogynistic attitudes and behaviors more than once this year. I have had to address more than one of our young men on appropriate language regarding women.  We have all had to listen to the media onslaught about Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson.  How do we teach our boy's to be men?

I often speak about the "Three Rs" of education.  No, not those.  I mean Relevance, Rigor, and Relationships.  These are what make school matter to students.  This particular post is about relationships.  Take a look at this video...and think about how you tear others down or build them up.
