Students as Leaders

FFA Celebrations!

The Fairfield Union FFA Department would like to celebrate two of its most active members!

During Fair Week Laura Swinehart was picked from a filed of numerous participants to be the 2014 Fairfield County Fair Queen.  This is a tremendous honor as she will represent the county at various fairs and festivals throughout the state in the coming year.  Fair Queens are selected based on their involvment and success within the FFA and 4-H programs as well as public speaking and other various skills.

Also during Fair Week, member Blake Vessels was selected by JD Equipment to be a participant in their Fast Track Program.  Blake will be working as an intern at JD Equipment in Lancaster where he will receive on the job training in 6 week blocks.  In alternate 6 week sessions he will attend Owens College in Toledo where he will receive a full scholarship preparing him to enter the agricultural field as a heavy equipment technician.  This is a two-year program worth approximately $20,000.

Congratulations to both of these students!

86th Annual State FFA Convention

On May 1, 2014 Sara McClasky won the state competition in her proficiency division of Agricultural Sales in the Entrepreneurship category.   This award is based on a  student's Supervised Agricultural Experience program.  With over 23,000 members state-wide, these awards are very competitive and Sara is just the 4th State Champion in the history of the Fairfield Union FFA.  Sara's project will move on to the national level at this year's convention in Louisville, KY this October.

5.       Marki did an awesome job on stage and speaking throughout the conference as she concluded her State Officer Term.

6.       Gabrielle Smith was introduced as a Regional Officer Candidate.  She currently serves as our Region 7 and Vice President.

7.       Marki nominated Cinda Engelman and Jennifer McClure-Spillers for an award, Honorary FCCLA Member, which is given to 1 or 2 people each year.  It is chosen by the State Officers and State Advisor.  We were both surprised and touched by the award.

8.       Jennifer received a Spirit of Advising Award which is selected by our State Advisor and is given to one middle school FCCLA Advisor, one high school FCCLA Advisor, and one occupational Advisor.  Jennifer received it for the high school FCCLA Advisor.

9.       Jennifer also received her Master Advisor Award which is achieved through an application process.  She will be recognized at the National Leadership Conference this summer.

10.   Jennifer was also selected to the Ohio FCCLA Board of Directors.

When you look back on the conference, the results, and our recognitions, I think it is fair to say that Fairfield Union has one of the strongest FCCLA chapters in the State of Ohio.
